Bariatric Support Centers International
Bariatric Support Centers International (BSCI) is a wonderful resource for patients founded by patients. Their mission is to "provide long-term educational and support resources for weight loss surgery patients and the professionals who serve them." (Read complete statement on their website.) Our group leader received her training from BSCI. Our ObesityHelp.com Group Page
To stay in touch outside of our monthly meetings, we have a group page on ObesityHelp.com located at: www.obesityhelp.com/group/ebwlsgroup_group . When you reach that page, click on the "join this group" button on the right side of the screen. If you do not already have a profile on ObesityHelp, you'll need to create one first and then go back to our group page to join. This is a great way to connect with people in our WLS or bariatric community so your time spent creating a profile is worth it. Your profile can be short to quickly get started and you can add to it later if you feel like it. It's free! Obesity Action Coalition
The Obesity Action Coalition's (OAC) sole focus is to help those affected by obesity. Since 2005, the OAC has grown into a 16,000 member-strong organization dedicated to educating and advocating on behalf of those affected with obesity every day, including children. Throughout the years, the OAC has tackled a wide variety of issues from improving access to obesity treatments to combating stigma and discrimination, and currently the "buy a 2nd seat" by many airline carriers to obese passengers. OAC’s accomplishments are great including sponsoring "Walk from Obesity," a national march on Washington, recently launched "Your Weight Maters Campaign, White House invitations, and lobbying work at various governmental levels. This is an organization worth supporting. www.obesityaction.org.
